Duffy Kennedy completes work on three key schools in South Western Sydney

Leading construction company Duffy Kennedy Constructions has just completed work on behalf of the NSW Department of Education for three schools in the Campbelltown local government area.

The schools, Glenfield Park, Campbell House and Ajuga Public Schools, form part of the NSW Government’s historic school building program, a $6 billion investment over 4 years to build and upgrade school education facilities.

Duffy Kennedy’s CEO Gavin Duffy said that his company had worked closely with the Department and award-winning architects Conrad Gargett to undertake and complete the works.

“As much of the works had to be undertaken outside of school term times, the challenge of a more confined timeline to undertake the job was one of many we faced for the life of the project.” Gavin said.

“Approved works included construction of new teaching facilities with each of the schools designated as “Schools for Specific Purposes” by the Department,” he said.

“New single-story buildings were built at each of the three school locations and were designed to meet special needs of students from this growing location in Sydney’s South West,”.

“We had to demolish several existing buildings and construct teaching facilities as well as general learning areas, breakout rooms, outside areas for practical activities and outdoor learning spaces for each of the schools. Our work saw an additional 21 new classrooms completed, adding valuable teaching and learning spaces for the facility.”

“In addition, the works included building a new multi-purpose hall, a fitness centre and covered walkway to be shared by all three schools.”

“We also constructed new amenities to service the shared outdoor pool, a new tractor shed as well as extensive landscaping and coloured paving. Existing roads were resurfaced and carparking formalised to meet the schools’ needs.”

“While the works were completed in a tight timeframe, with unique challenges including heritage and environmental considerations, we are very pleased with the outcome, particularly as students and teachers faced a minimum of disruption to the school year.”

“It is great to see investment in new and improved school facilities in New South Wales, particularly in communities which will benefit from better education infrastructure. Duffy Kennedy was delighted to play its part.” Gavin concluded.

Work progressing well at Shell Cove on New South Wales South Coast

Work to complete the prestige Shell Cove Waterfront project is proceeding with Duffy Kennedy Constructions involved in two key projects in the complex.

Shell Cove is a significant new community project being created by Shellharbour City Council and Frasers Property Australia and will be finished in 2021.

Leading construction company Duffy Kennedy was responsible for the early works package for the project’s Waterfront Tavern now being completed by the Tavern’s owners completing their build.

According to Duffy Kennedy’s CEO Gavin Duffy, the company’s work includes foundations and structural work including the first elevated slab which cantilevers over the public boardwalk and marina: “This was a complex task in a prime waterfront location and maximises water views to the north and east,” Gavin said.

“Waterfront construction has a number of significant challenges (particularly environmental ones in such a unique location) but Duffy Kennedy with its highly skilled people has been able to meet these challenges in partnership with the developer, the Council and the design and engineering teams.”

“The Tavern complex and its environment will be used by thousands of people annually and will be a key part of this prestigious community complex being developed to benefit local residents, tourists and businesses for many years to come. Boat owners in particular will be delighted with the new complex as it comes to completion,” he said.

The second more substantial role undertaken by Duffy Kennedy at Shell Cove is full construction responsibility for stage 2 of Frasers Shell Cove Aqua apartment complex.

The world-class apartment complex comprises three levels of one, two and three bedroom residences located directly above the Waterfront restaurant precinct.

According to Gavin Duffy there are 45 units and 8 retail lots in the complex. Mr Duffy said that successful pre-marketing has meant that all apartments have been sold.

There is also an external carpark to service marina users and further infrastructure projects within the Waterfront precinct as part of Stage 2.

“Late last year we held a topping out ceremony for the apartment building with completion expected in 2021, despite the challenges presented by Covid.”

“We have been delighted to work on this very important south coast project in a rapidly growing area and look forward to continuing to develop our relationship with major developers like Frasers and will Shellharbour Council,” Gavin concluded.

Duffy Kennedy proudly associated with award-winning Sydney CBD development

Leading construction company Duffy Kennedy Constructions is delighted that its client Mosaic Tower in Sydney CBD has won two prestigious 2020 World Architecture Awards.

The recently-completed Sussex Street tower is a commercial and residential complex located in a rapidly changing part of the city.

The project architect Tony Owen recently won two awards for the building’s unique design that includes a mosaic of angled windows designed to maximise light into the tenancy. Through the use of cutting-edge technology, Mosaic Tower catches light and sun from every possible angle, making it one of Australia’s most unique buildings while minimising environmental impacts. The two awards were for “facade in architecture” and “glass in architecture”.

According to CEO of Duffy Kennedy Gavin Duffy, the project’s construction company, the project presented some unique challenges in the building phase:

“We were very excited to be part of the team that has produced such a unique structure and final outcome,” Gavin said.

“While a fairly complex job, particularly the different materials used in the project, Duffy Kennedy worked closely with the architects and building owner to achieve an outstanding result,” he said.

“It’s very rewarding to be involved in such a unique project in Sydney’s CBD, particularly at a time when commercial and residential tenants are demanding the best available. Mosaic Tower well and truly delivers that!”

“With the use of high quality materials and finishes according to the architect and designer’s specification, we believe this is one of the best quality outcomes that Duffy Kennedy has been involved with in its 27 years in business.”

“Located in a fast-developing precinct of the City of Sydney, Mosaic Tower will become a classic CBD building which others will use as a benchmark. We were fortunate to have a client who wants the best and believe that this project achieves that. The two prestigious World Architecture awards reflect that.” Gavin concluded.
